BUFFS' impressive run in the blue riband competition came to a disappointing end as Largs Thistle put in a convincing showing to outshine their local rivals and blaze into the semi-finals for the second time in three seasons, writes Calum Corral.

It was a professional display from Pat McIlvogue's men against the proverbial banana skin in Kilwinning, from two divisions below, but they had been unbeaten in all competitions since October 8, and fancied their chances. It was the first weekend of true spring sunshine in Largs, as Thistle proved too hot to handle for underdogs Kilwinning.

An interested spectator at a packed Barrfields Park was Kilmarnock's cup winning manager Kenny Shiels. He was apparently watching Ben Lewis of Kilwinning who has been training with the SPL outfit.
