MIDFIELD ace Paul Frize believes Beith are in with a chance of winning the Scottish Junior Cup after his double helped them clinch a quarter-final berth.

They defeated Petershlll 3-1 in a home fifth round tie after coming from behind to see off their Premier Division rivals and progress to the last eight for the first time in 10 years.

And the Bellsdale Park club were joined in the last eight by derby rivals Kilbirnie Ladeside, who saw off Aberdeenshire team Hermes 2-0 away to advance.

Frize (27), who is in his third season at Bellsdale Park admitted he was relieved to hit the target after his error helped Peasy take the lead.

He said: "I lost my marker in the build up to their goal and they scored, which was disappointing. But we picked up quickly and it was great to score two goals."

The midfielder added: "We deserved to win as we played really well. It's a great achievement to reach the quarter-finals and hopefully we can go on to win the Scottish Cup, or at least make the final. We have a strong squad and Johnny Millar is a good manager."

Millar was heartened with the performance and said: "I was disappointed when we went behind but the players picked themselves up and we deserved to win. We could have scored more goals but the important thing is that we are through. It will be tough no matter who we draw in the quarter-finals but we look forward to it."

Beith on Saturday head to Loch Park to face Glenafton Athletic in a league match.

Millar added: "They are a good side but we are looking to take three points and try to push up the table."

Ladeside manager Stephen Swift meanwhile praised his team for their cup victory and said: "We were totally professional from time we set off on Friday night until we came off the bus on Saturday. We did our homework and it was a really good performance. There's a really strong line up in the quarter-finals but we look forward to the challenge."

The boss is disappointed his team have no game on Saturday, unless Auchinleck Talbot's scheduled Scottish Cup tie at Carnoustie is called off., in which case they would host the champions in a league match.

Swift said: "We have only played one home league game since October and still have 14 still to play. Surely we could play Kirkintilloch Rob Roy as we haven't played them yet but they are playing Pollok for a second time."
