FRUSTRATED Ardrossan Winton Rovers chairman Pat Breen is calling for an overhaul of the Junior Football season, claiming the recent spate of call-offs is "crippling" local clubs.

The Winton Park supremo would like to see the campaign running from the Spring until the Autumn as so many postponements fall at the turn of the year.

But he is hoping for a bumper crowd at Winton Park on Saturday as Scottish Junior Cup quarter-finalists Kilwinning Rangers come visiting for an important Super First Division match.

Breen is disillusioned with the lack of action since the turn of the year and told Sportscene: "We have only had three competitive games since the start of the year with only two at Winton Park and that is really frustrating. December, January and February are always the worst months for call-offs. I think it's time for the Junior Football powers that have a look at things. The call-offs are crippling local clubs and I think it's time for a change.

"Everything is up for debate and I am willing to discuss things, but it would be a good idea if the season could run from March until the end of October and we could possibly have a couple of weeks break in July but in April, May and June we could play two games a week. The days of everyone taking the Glasgow Fair fortnight are gone, things are different."

Meanwhile Winton will be looking to bounce back from Saturday's 1-0 defeat against Maybole as they welcome Buffs for an eagerly anticipated game.

Breen said: "It should be a good game and we would really like more fans to come along and support us,"

Meanwhile Ardeer Thistle assistant assistant boss Mark McCann was relieved to see action at last as the basement side drew 2-2 at home to Muirkirk on Saturday.

He said: "The Committee worked hard to clear the water early last week to get the game on - it was only our second game in 10 weeks. We were unfortunate not to take full points after being 2-0 up with 15 minutes to go. The lay off of games was a contributing factor. We looking forward to the clash against Irvine Vics on Saturday. It was a close one in the last encounter but we are quietly confident we can take something from it."
