DETERMINED Ardrossan Winton Rovers midfielder Ben Carson hopes Saturday's battling 2-2 draw with promotion contenders Kilwinning Rangers can spark a revival in their fortunes.

And manager Chris Strain Snr was impressed with his team's display as they bounced back from a disappointing 1-0 defeat away to Maybole seven days earlier.

Winton are in fourth bottom spot in the Super First Division, but just a point behind Shotts Bon Accord and Blantyre Victoria in a league which sees four teams relegated.

arson scored a wonder goal to put his side ahead at Winton Park.

He was encouraged with the performance and said: "I was delighted with the goal - as soon as I hit the ball. I knew it was going in. It was a good result after the Maybole game although we had chances that day to win.

"Hopefully this result will give us a lift and we can kick on from here. We competed well as Buffs are flying and we competed well and dug in deep. Hopefully we can build on this now and start picking up more points. We must aim to start winning games as we have a lot to catch up on. We look forward a home match against Largs on Saturday. We will raise our game as we did against Kilwinning. It should be a good test."

Strain was impressed with how his side played and said: "We have been depleted with injuries in recent weeks which has made it difficult but hopefully we will have guys coming back in the next few weeks. I was pleased to take a point from the Kilwinning game and Ben Carson took his goal well. This result should give us confidence

"We look forward to the Largs game and will aim to take three points and see where we go from there. We have a lot of talent in the squad."

Meanwhile Buffs defender Barry Fleeting is relishing Saturday's ETHX Energy Scottish Junior Cup quarter-final clash with Camelon at Abbey Park as his side aim to continue their dream journey in the showpiece event.

Buffs are unbeaten in six months and will go into the game with confidence.

Fleeting, who reached the semi-finals with Dalry Thistle five years ago said: " Camelon are a top side and had a good win against Kelty in the last round. We are underdogs but that suits us and hopefully we can go through. We have some good young players and did well to beat Linlithgow in the last round."

Manager Chris Strain Jnr is hopeful of progress and told Sportscene: "We have had a great run in the Scottish Cup and hopefully that continues on Saturday. The people of the town have backed us so well and hopefully they turn out and really get behind us."
