SALTCOATS VICTORIA 0

DARVEL 4

SALTCOATS were well beaten by a Darvel side so much quicker and determined and were worthy winners,.

Darvel showed right from the start they meant business when Mark Armour broke up the wing and eased his way past the home defence before testing goalie Sean Sumner in two minutes.

Then in 10 minutes, Saltcoats were hit with a double blow. Firstly Armour again went on the attack up the wing and fired in a cross which was met by Neil McPherson who knocked it down for Murray Johnston to slot home from what looked like an offside position, however the goal stood. Within a minute it was 2-0 when the kick off was lost and Darvel sent the ball upfield for Jordan Ryan to stroll in and place the ball past Sumner and make it 2-0..

Saltcoats tried to get into the game with some good work from Jamie Paton and Colin Frye in the mid division and Frannie Kilpatrick and Joe Young trying hard to find ways through up front.

The second half was only four minutes old when Johnston made it 3-0 to Darvel. Late on Ryan made it 4-0 to complete a miserable afternoon for Vics.

ANNBANK UNITED 3

DALRY THISTLE 0

AFTER a competitive first half, things fell short for 10 man Dalry in the second half.

In only three minutes a fine run from David Mills created the chance for a Greig McVeigh shot which brought out a fine save from the home goalie. Only a minute later, McVeigh was in behind the defender inside the box when he was chopped from the back, but surprisingly no penalty was awarded.

Then in 15 minutes a lay-iff for Guthrie at the edge of the box created a chance but his shot went over the bar.

Annbank dominated for 10 minutes without creating any clearcut chances.

In 44 minutes later Thistle came close when a McVeigh free-kick hit the wall and the loose ball went over the bar.

Then after a spell of Dalry pressure, Bankies went ahead on the hour. It was a comedy of errors for the visitors as Lee Guthrie and Greg Morrison collided in midfield going for the same ball, and it was cleared upfield with a big punt. The referee, who had been getting treatment for a thigh injury, was well behind play and allowed play to on despite a clear offside and the ball was slipped under Hewitt and into the net.

Dalry almost responded straight away but a Morrison effort found the side netting.

The game was beyond Dalry in 70 minutes. A long punt forward saw a chase for the ball to the edge of the box. Home goalie Hewitt was caught in two minds, but clearly handled outside the area and was shown the red card.

Mills took over in goal, and his first task was to defend the free-kick. With eight players in the wall, the ball was played back short and the effort found the net.

In 77 minutes a ball played into the box was allowed to slip under the body of Mills and it left a simple tap in for goal number three.

Dalry competed well for the remainder of the game but couldn't find any way back.

The visitors battled and played some neat football., but were too weak in attack and the loss of the poor first goal affected their confidence.
