KILBIRNIE LADESIDE 0

LADESIDE crashed out of the Scottish Junior Cup after Pollok were awarded a last minute penalty which was converted to earn the home side a narrow victory.

Kilbirnie had the better of the opening exchanges and created the first chance of the match when Caolan McAleer cut the ball back to Meechan and his shot towards goal was headed onto the bar by Martin Grehan. Five minutes later Grehan set up Steven Meechan on the edge of the box but Longmuir saved low to his left.

Davy Anderson then picked the ball up in midfield, passed it out to McAleer who cut inside and fired in a shot which Longmuir beat away at his near post.

Pollok had their first effort on goal when Hanlon fired a free-kick in over the wall but Kieran Hughes eventually held on after the ball almost squirmed away from him.

A Darren Miller free-kick from the right was swung in and Grehan headed straight at at Longmuir who palmed the ball away before saving again from Mick O’Byrne who fired a shot goalwards after it was returned into the box.

From a training ground move David Winters fired a shot over the bar from a well worked corner. O’Byrne then headed wide at the back post from a Miller cross. Hanlon had the last effort of the half for Pollok when he fired a shot in from 30 yards out but his effort went wide of the target.

Hanlon ad the first chance of the second half when he blasted in a free kick which crashed back off the bar.

On the counterAnderson had a great chance when Grehan played him in on goal but he miscued his shot well wide. Hanlon again put in a dangerous cross from a free kick which MacKenzie headed wide at the back post. Grehan then set up McAleer when he crossed the ball in low from the right but Longmuir saved with his legs.

With time running out Ladeside had a great chance when McAleer fed the ball wide to Miller and his low cross in was perfect for Adam Forde but he shot weakly straight at Longmuir.

Pollok then broke the deadlock in the final minute of normal time when Mark Staunton was adjudged to have fouled David Winter just inside the box. He picked himself up to fire the ball from the spot low past Hughes in added time

Ladeside were still creating chances and Longmuir tipped a shot from Adam Forde over the bar before saving again from Matty Bennett after a Miller corner.

Eeep into stoppage time Ladeside had a shout for a penalty waved away when Bennett was pushed in the box. Staunton then received a straight red card for berating referee Lambie for not awarding a penalty.
