THE Seasiders suffered a crushing defeat against rampant Whitletts at Dam Park Stadium.

The hosts were first to threaten in four minutes when a deflected Sean Ewart cross came off the face of the bar,

But within a minute Whitletts were in front.Chris Black released Tony Balfour who shrugged off the attentions of Roland Fabiani to fire past Sean Sumners.

In 18 minutes Balfour had his shot was blocked by a defender. Tommy Sloan’s follow up was blocked by the keeper, allowing Ewart to fire low into the empty net..

Balfour grabbed his second in 25 minutes, running onto a Louis Kerr pass and as Sumners came out of his goal, the Whitletts striker lofted the ball over his head.

The first chance of the second half fell to the visitors when Ryan McKie’s 20-yard drive flashed inches wide while at the other end, Sumners made a fine save from a Tommy Sloan header. But the goalie picked up an injury and was replaced by Adam Easdon.

Louis Kerr’s low ball into the box then found Balfour who completed his hat-trick.

Balfour notched his fourth and Whitletts' fifth in 56 minutes. Goal number six came in 70 minute when. Kris Kerr found Liam Anderson who set up Balfour to net.

Immediately Saltcoats were reduced to 10 men with striker Joe Young losing his discipline and being shown a straight red card.

A seventh goal came in 82 minutes as James Davidson netted from 25 yards.

Six minutes from time it was 8-0 as Ewart slotted home.
