MAYBOLE 5

SALTCOATS VICTORIA 1

VICS crashed to defeat in a match which proved to be manager Derek Frye's last one in charge.

The manager resigned on Sunday after two years in charge.

As the scoreline suggests Maybole won with ease and had it not been for the fine form of home goalie Shaun Kirkland the hosts would have been defeated even more heavily.

Maybole opened strongly and it was no surprise when they went ahead after 10 minutes Aiden Conner turning a Chris Allan cross into the net at the back post.

Saltcoats drew level two minutes later when Scott Reid beat a defender and netted in off the post. Maybole regained the lead in 35 minutes when Nathan Baird was fouled in the penalty area and Allan netted the spot kick.

Five minutes after the interval Maybole added a third goal when a long throw was flicked on by Alex Bell and Gareth Scott was on hand to head the ball into the net.

Maybole increased their lead on the hour when Damien Bloye volleyed the ball home.

Substitute Tommy Sloan set up the fifth goal. Following a fine run down the wing, he sent a cross cum shot across goal and Gavin Scott was on hand to turn the ball into the net.

Gavin Scott went looking for his hat-trick but was denied by some fine saves from Kirkland.
