STRUGGLING Saltcoats Victoria are looking for a new manager after Derek Frye quit the hotseat.

And the former boss confirmed on Tuesday he is joining Super League Premier Division club Arthurlie as a coach

Frye and assistant John Gallagher left 24 hours after the Campbell Park side's 5-1 defeat at Maybole which left them third bottom of the Ayrshire District League with nine points from 16 games.

Former Winton Rovers manager Frye, who was in the post for two years, claims his side don't have much spending power and said: "Myself and John resigned on Sunday and it was nothing to do with results. We are competing with Lugar, Muirkirk and Craigmark but can't compete with bigger clubs like Winton and Dalry in terms of their budgets. We used young players. To have a chance of promotion Saltcoats Vics have to get funding. I wish the club well. Thanks to all the players who have worked me including the Tass Thistle Under-17s who are credit to their football club. I look forward to working with Chris Mackie at Arthurlie, it's a good opportunity- I must be doing something right."

Chairman Ray Montgomerie said: "Derek Frye offered to resign a couple of times last season but we talked him out of it. But we accepted his decision.

"Football is a results-driven business and Derek wanted to improve on finishing bottom last season but we are only third bottom. We have lost 47 of the last 75 games and this season 13 out of 16 under Derek's tenure. We are not the richest of clubs but anything Derek asked for we gave him."

"We are now looking for a new manager and we would like to hear from people who are interested. I'm not sure whether we will appoint someone for the rest of the season or making a permanent appointment."

Anyone interested in applying should write to club secretary Gordon Hunter, 11 Wilson Street, Airdrie, ML6 0EE.
