POLLOK 1

KILBIRNIE LADESIDE 1

TWO goals in the last 15 minutes meant both teams had to settle for a share of the points.

Pollok were first to threaten when a Kieran McAleenan free kick from 20 yards out forced a good save from Hughes in the Ladeside goal.

Ladeside's first chance fell to Kyle Rafferty after good link up play by Martin Grehan and Adam Forde, but his shot was blocked by Mark Sideserf.

A driving run by David Anderson then set up Forde on the edge of the box but Longmuir got down to his right to push the ball behind for a corner. Rafferty then fired wide before a Pollok corner-kick found its way to Hepburn on the edge of the box but he pulled his shot well wide.

Ladeside had a great opportunity to go in front on the half hour when Grehan’s cross went right across goal before Anderson picked out Forde eight yards out with a great pass. His effort was saved by the leg of Longmuir in the Pollok goal.

Ciran McElroy then had a couple of efforts which went wide before the last chance of the half came from a Kieran McAleenan free-kick which went just over the bar.

Again Pollok had the first couple of chances of the second half when Kieran Hughes saved from MacKenzie and then Hepburn and Winters failed to get onto the end of a cross at the far post.

Rafferty then sent a free kick just wide from 25 yards out. A quick throw-in by McAleenan found Liam Rowan inside the Ladeside box but Hughes pushed his effort away.

Kilbirnie took the lead on 76 minutes when Anderson and Forde combined to play Ian Gold up the left wing, and he cut inside past the covering defender before sliding a pass across the six yard box where Darren Smith arrived to prod the ball into the back of the net.

Pollok then pressed for an equaliser and a long ball up field gave Hepburn a chance but Hughes was equal to his effort on goal.

A minute later the hosts were level after a long ball into the box saw Robbie Winters head down for MacKenzie and although Hughes managed to get a partial block on his shot, the ball squirmed into the net. Walker had two chances to win the game with a couple of headers but both went wide of target and it ended deadlocked.
