Ayrshire Weekly Press Cup Second Round
KILWINNING RANGERS 3
DARVEL 2
BUFFS held off promoted Darvel at Abbey Park last Wednesday to clinch a quarter-final berth.
It was sweet revenge following their West of Scotland Cup defeat at Recreation Park a week earlier.
The hosts began well and in six minutes, Mike Morrison curled a shot just past the far post. However the deadlock was broken in 20 minutes when a Darren Moffat free-kick was headed home at the back post by Sam McCloskey.
Five minutes after the break Findlay Frye stole in at the back post to force the ball over the line.
On the hour Darvel came close when Moodie cracked a 20-yard shot off the crossbar. Five minutes later McCloskey sent a 25-yard effort shot over the bar.
Nine minutes later a good run by Ben Lewis saw him cut in from right and set up Morrison, who slots the ball home. Then in 75 minutes a curling shot from the edge of the box fro, Lewis Morrison crashed off the post. At the other end in 77 minutes Gall sent a free-kick over the bar.
However three minutes later the same player set up Davidson to slot home.
In 85 minutes home player Mike Morris conceded a penalty which Moodie converted to make it 3-2.
