BEITH JUNIORS 0

KIRKINTILLOCH ROB ROY 0

THE hosts racked up their ninth draw of the season's league campaign in their penultimate match.

And no doubt, reflecting on this and the majority of other draws, they will be trying to understand how they failed to convert their domination into a win.

Both team selections were limited with Beith particularly 'lightweight'.

However the hosts showed their intent from the off and won three corners in as many minutes with skipper John Sheridan forcing keeper Michael McKinven to make a good stop to touch his header behind. Rob Roy tried to relieve the pressure by firing balls forward for centre forward Willie Sawyers to scrap for although he got little change from Sheridan.

Beith were creating chances regularly up the slope from some good passing moves but McKinven made good saves to Calum deny Watt and stop two Mark McLaughlin headers. Another slick attack up the left wing saw Paul Frize shoot narrowly over.

League leaders Rabs had shown little in attack over the half but their defence, well led by central defenders Walker and Green, were strong and resolute and continued to frustrated the Beith attack through to the interval.

The visitors made Beith keeper Stephen Grindlay finally make a save a few minutes after the restart but he collected McGuire's shot comfortably. Sawyers then sent a header wide of the upright.

Beith retained the bulk of the play and continued to play some nice football but big chances remained illusive and Rob Roy almost took the lead well against the run of play when Kevin Green hit the post with a header from a corner.

As the half progressed the visitors looked increasingly happy to head for home with a point and their cause looked to be assisted when frustrated Beith midfielder Joe Bradley collected a second silly yellow card with 15 minutes left.

The player advantage still didn't encourage the visitors and Beith continued to press, throwing caution to the wind in an attempt to win.

Drren Christie tore through the visitors defence on several occasions but the goal wouldn't come. In the closing action the Roy keeper made another good save from Frize shot and David McGowan again missed the target, shooting over the bar.
