DISTRICT LEAGUE side Saltcoats Victoria have been handed a lucrative, but daunting tie in the opening round of the Scottish Junior Cup.

They will face 1999 winners Kilwinning Rangers at Abbey Park on Saturday, September 23, following the draw, which was made at Hampden Park last night.

Both sides enjoyed contrasting fortunes in their opening league games. Buffs defeated Cumnock 4-2 at Abbey Park, while Vics went down 3-1 at home to Lugar Boswell Thistle.

Ardeer Thistle will have home advantage against Yoker Athletic, while promotion hopefuls Ardrossan Winton Rovers entertain northerners Banchory St Ternan and Irvine Meadow are at Maryhill.

Irvine Vics play host to District League rivals Maybole in another interesting all-Ayrshire tie.

The other local sides Kilbirnie Ladeside, Dalry Thistle and Beith all get a bye to the second round along with the remaining Ayrshire teams.
