ARDROSSAN WINTON ROVERS 2

LUGAR BOSWELL THISTLE 3

NINE-man Winton crashed to defeat in their first home league game of the season.

Winton made a good start with Michael Lennox shooting over the bar in the first minute.

Rovers finally took the lead in four minutes when a long throw by Lee Davidson came through to Larry McMahon on the edge of the box and he turned and shot low under Davis.

In nine minutes Jamie McKenna brought down a good ball from Regan Ross on the edge of the box but shot wide.

The game was beginning to get scrappy with Lugar still to have a real attempt on goal before Winton doubled their lead in 24 minutes when Jamie McKenna head-flicked a ball into the box where Jordan Cairnie challenged Davis and the loose ball broke to McKenna who scored from 10 yards.

The first of several of contentious decisions by the referee saw Thistle awarded a penalty on the half hour when Lee Davidson went up to head clear a ball played into the box almost on the bye line and although Darren Curtis appeared to barge into the Winton defender the referee pointed to the spot, adjudging Lee to have fouled Curtis. Adam Love gave Zander Cowie no chance with his spot kick.

In 40 minutes, following a tackle in front of the Lugar bench by David Orr which apparently was not as bad as was made out, they rushed onto the pitch and the referee showed the Winton player a red card. Moments later Alan Muir was shown two quick yellow cards for his protests.

Winton had a chance to increase their lead when a Michael Lennox corner was deflected into Davis’s arms. On the hour Thistle won a free kick just outside the box which was taken by Adam Love and was deflected into the net to make it 2-2.

Winton cleared the ball off the line following a goalmouth scramble in 65 minutes. Winton were denied a perfectly good third goal when a shot was only parried by Davis then the follow up shot was blocked before a third shot was fired home. The goal was chalked off for offside despite a defender playing everyone on.

In 84 minutes Steven Tan found Larry McMahon who made a good run down the right but was dispossessed following a great tackle by Jordan Drummond just outside the box.

Disaster befell Winton with a minute of normal time left when everyone left a mishit shot from substitute Sam Shields which trickled into the back of the net.
