DALRY Thistle FC will pay tribute to a local man who tragically died on a holiday abroad during their game on Saturday.

A minute of silence and applause will be held before the home game against Ardeer Thistle in memory of Cameron Russell, who died following a tragic accident in Bulgaria last month.

Manager Gavin Friels said: "I knew Cameron when he played with me at the Dalry Rovers youth team and we will remember him on Saturday. I have invited members of his family to come along."

Meanwhile the manager is encouraged with the progress being made by his new-look squad as they opened up their McBookie Ayrshire District League campaign with a 5-1 victory at Muirkirk on Saturday.

This week he snapped up two new players, with former Largs Thistle trialist and East Kilbride Thistle striker Paul Byrne coming on board ex-Craigmark and Stranraer attacking midfielder Adam Lawrie. He is also running the rule over former Kilwinning Rangers midfielder Jamie Anderson.

He said: "Our aim is to finish third so we could get into a better league."

Meanwhile Ardeer Thistle assistant manager Mark McCann is staying upbeat, despite his team's 4-0 home loss against improving Craigmark Burntonians.

He said: "We were all disappointed on the result on Saturday. Craigmark had four opportunities and took them. We played well, created a lot of opportunities but failed to turn them into goals. The character and the effort is there to see in the team, all we are needing is the finishing touch.
