KILBIRNIE LADESIDE 2

HURLFORD UNITED 0

LADESIDE racked up their second league win of the campaign against Hurlford at Valefield in style.

The visitors who had the first chance of the match when a long range effort by Watt was parried by Wilton but Ladeside defenders were on hand to clear the danger.

It took Kilbirnie a good 10 minutes to find their feet with a change in shape of play from previous weeks. John Scully and sent strikerforce partner Reece Williamson in on goal but his effort was saved by home keeper Ally Brown.

Mick O'Byrne then had a looping header from a Jon Scullion free-kick saved before Scullion himself had a dipping shot from 20 yards out which beat Brown but went just over the bar.

Kilbirnie had a great chance to open the scoring in 20 minutes when Sweeney took a quick throw in over the top of the Hurlford defence to send Reece Williamson in on goal but his shot was touched onto the post by Brown. Kris McKnight then sent a free-kick from 25 yards over the bar at the other end before Ladeside made the breakthrough in 31 minutes. Scullion flighted a good free kick from wide on the right into the box and Arnault Bembo got a touch to push the ball into the path of Williamson who forced the ball home from six yards.

Home goalie Joe Wilton then made a good save from a Hodge piledriver from 30 yards out which took a deflection, but the young keeper got down well to turn the ball away at his right hand post.

Wilton made another fine save just before the break when a McKenzie cross was met by Jenkins yards from goal but the keeper tipped his effort over the bar.

Ladeside started the second half well and increased their lead when Reon Juskowiak forced a free-kick 30 yards out after a good run in 50 minutes. Scullion stepped up and struck a great effort over the wall into the right hand side of the net, with Brown helpless.

Williamson was causing Hurlford problems with his pace and cut in along the bye line before firing in a shot which Brown saved at his near post.

Scully and Williamson then linked up to set up Gavin Mitchell inside the box but his shot went right across goal and just wide of the target.

Williamson should have had the home team cruising in 82 minutes when Scullion hit a free kick with the outside of his boot from fully 35 yards, and with Brown rooted to the spot the ball came cannoning back off the bar but Williamson, following up couldn't direct his header on target. Hurlford pushed forward in the remaining 10 minutes but were unable to really create any real chances against a home side who were much-improved defensively.
