MAYBOLE 2

DOMINANT Maybole completed the double over Winton as they handed them their first defeat of 2018 in this crunch promotion clash.

In a fairly even first half hour Maybole had the first chance when former Winton striker Greig Mitchell hit the bar with a free-kick from just outside the box in two minutes. Home boss Bryan Slavin then headed a corner-kick clear before Winton had their first chance when a throw-in on the right to Jamie McKenna saw him lay off to Steven Tan whose snap shot was parried by visiting goalie Chris Taylor in the visiting goal but there was nobody following up and the ball was cleared.

In a fairly even opening spell it was end-to-end action with Maybole looking the more dangerous and passing the ball well but there were no real chances being created. The next real attempt saw Bryan Tucker save a Greig Mitchell free-kick in 17 minutes. The Winton keeper then denied Maybole a certain opening goal when Allan Patterson picked up the ball on the edge of the box ran in on goal and shot towards goal only for Tucker to make s great save with his legs in 24 minutes. Three minutes later Taylor took two attempts to hold a 25 yard free kick from Michael Lennox following a foul on Thomas Donovan which saw Lewis Gardiner booked. A minute later Taylor could only parry a Thomas Donovan shot but the danger was cleared by a defender.

Alan Muir then hit a 30 yard free-kick over the bar just before Rovers paid for not taking their chances when Maybole took the lead on the half hour. A free-kick was only headed out to the edge of the box where Steven Tan was unable to connect with the ball to clear it and it came to Sam Nimmo about 20 yards out and he lobbed the ball over Bryan Tucker.

A couple of minutes later, Alan Muir picked up what would be a costly booking. Patterson then saw a long range shot go wide in 37 minutes as Maybole continued to press and a minute later Thomas Donovan shot over the bar. The last real action of the half saw Tucker save a Nimmo shot three minutes later.
