KILBIRNIE LADESIDE 3

LADESIDE got back to winning ways in the league with a three goal victory over bottom-of-the-table Arthurlie.

The visitors created the first opening of the match when a crossfield pass from Kurtis Roberts found James Finlay on the left hand side but his effort from the edge of the box went just wide. Some good play by David Anderson then found Jon Scullion, who slipped the ball past his defender, but he dragged his shot wide of the left hand post from 20 yards.

Arthurlie then threatened when Kieran MacLennan won a free kick 22 yards from goal but Mark Blakey fired the ball well over the bar. A few minutes later a corner by Wilson was headed goal ward by MacLennan but his effort was blocked by a wall of players on the line.

Scullion then had another shot from distance but hay turned the ball wide with a diving save low to his left hand post. Kilbirnie then conceded another free kick 23 yards from goal but Blakey's effort was easily taken by Kieran Hughes in the Ladeside goal.

Arthurlie looked dangerous from set pieces and Blakey headed over from a corner-kick. Ladeside thought they had taken the lead in 39 minutes when a throw-in was only partially cleared and Scullion smashed a shot into the net but the assistant referee flagged for an offside against Finlay.

Two minutes later Kilbirnie got the break through when a good run by Roberts along the bye line saw him cut the ball back for Scullion and he slammed the ball past Hay from 12 yards.

Ladeside doubled their advantage in 43 minutes when they won the ball on the left and Scullion slipped a pass to Anderson, who fired a shot into the top corner of the net from 18 yards.

James Finlay had a great chance to increase Kilbirnie's lead four minutes into the second half when Reece Williamson sent him through on goal but Hay saved his effort. Ladeside were awarded a penalty two minutes later when Scullion found Kurtis Roberts and he was pulled back in the box by McAleenan. Finlay's spot-kick was poor and easily saved low to his right by Hay. Scullion then had a chance after Anderson and Gavin Williamson combined but he fired his shot from a tight angle right across goal and wide. Arthurlie's first real threat on goal from the second half came after 75 minutes when a cross into the box was headed onto his own bar by Cory Hughes.

Arthurlie came close in 85 minutes when they were awarded a free-kick 25 yards out, but Wilson saw his effort come back off the inside of the right hand post. With a minute of normal time remaining Scullion had a chance from a free kick 23 yards from goal but his curling effort round the wall came back off the post.

Kilbirnie made the points safe right on full-time when they were awarded another penalty when a good run into the box by Roberts saw him impeded by Bohme. Scullion stepped up to smash the ball past Hay into the net and give the away side a well deserved three points.
