BEITH Juniors will pay tribute to newly-crowned Scottish Junior Cup winners Auchinleck Talbot with a guard of honour and memento when they head to Beechwood Park tonight (Wednesday).

But the Garnock Valley club are going all out to deal their rivals a major double blow in the next few days.

The two longtime rivals meet in the Ayrshire Weekly Press Cup quarter-final tonight and then on Saturday will aim to pip them to the Premier Division title by defeating Girvan at home and hope that Talbot draw or lose away to bitter rivals Cumnock.

Striker Keir Milliken, on target in last Wednesday's AWP Cup win at Girvan and manager Johnny Millar are hoping for a memorable few days.

Milliken said: "We look forward to the quarter-final although Auchinleck is always a difficult place to go. It was a great second half and it was some goal from Paul Frize at the end. It's good to be challenging for honours. We are also still in the West of Scotland Cup.

"I thought we were out of it in the league when we lost to Glenafton. But Pollok did us a favour by beating Talbot and it's good the league is going right to the last day although Talbot always seem to come through. We can't take for granted that we're going to beat Girvan because they are a good side and I'm surprised they are where they are in the league. But we must look to win the game. I don't think Cumnock will want Auchinleck Talbot to win the league on their patch so hopefully they will take something from it."

Millar added: "It was a great goal from Paul Frize to win the cup tie, but we have a tough run in as we are away to Talbot and the winner is at Kilwinning for the semi-final. Hopefully we can get through."

The manager, who has won the league once with Beith in 2010 is looking forward to the weekend showdown.

He said: "The league is up for grabs. It's our out of our hands and we can only do our bit. Cumnock will not want Auchinleck to win the league on their patch and it would be the same for Kilbirnie, we wouldn't want them winning the title at Bellsdale."

Meanwhile former Ardrossan Winton Rovers caretaker boss Mark McCann this week become assistant manager at Irvine Victoria, with Brian McLuckie the number one.

He said: "I look forward to the challenge and worked with Brian at Winton last season as well as previously playing alongside him at Troon."
