LEGENDARY BEITH JUNIORS FC striker Kenny McLean this week announced his immediate retirement from Junior Football after nine years at Bellsdale Park.

And the 29-year-old went out on a total high, scoring one of the goals in Saturday’s 4-2 home win against Arthurlie.

The targetman made the decision for family reasons and says he won’t play the Junior game again, although may consider playing at Amateur level.

Reid said: “To be honest football has become a bit of a chore for me and I am not enjoying it as much. I would like to thank all of the fans, players and management for the memories and support from my time at the club.

“It takes up a lot of time, going to training and playing and I have to balance that with work, I also have three young children and would like to spend more time with my family. Out of loyalty to Beith I wouldn’t play for any other team although I might play Amateur Football in the Glasgow area in the future.” Asked what had been the highpoints of his time with the Garnock Valley club, McLean said: “It has to be winning the West of Scotland Cup and scoring the winning goal in the final. It was also a great achievement winning the Premier Division.” Disappointed ARDROSSAN WINTON ROVERS manager Chris Strain Jnr will not press the panic button, despite his team suffering a surprise 3-1 defeat away to Annbank United in the Stagecoach Ayrshire District League.

He said: “It was a disappointing result of course but we dominated the match and missed so many chances which on any other day would have gone in. Annbank took their opportunities.

“We don’t want to fall too far behind but are at home to Kello on Saturday and must look to win the game.” DETERMINED KILWINNING RANGERS co- manager Chris Strain Jnr saluted his side for putting on a goal show on Saturday which cemented their status as title favourites.

Now he is intent on making sure Abbey Park is a fortress following the 6-1 triumph against a Girvan team bossed by ex-Buffs manager Billy Thomson.

Next up are SALTCOATS VICTORIA, with the match being switched to Abbey Park owing to the Campbell Park pitch being re-laid.

Strain said: “It had been a hard-fought win the week before but we asked the boys for a really good performance in our first home league game and they gave us that. We totally dominated and were 4-0 up at half-time. We slackened off a bit in the second half but it was a great performance. It’s good to be top and that’s where we want to stay. I hope Abbey Park becomes a real fortress and no-one will enjoy coming here.

“With Saturday’s game at home that’s another boost for us and hopefully we will make the most of it and pick up another win.”
