NEW signing Ian Reid was on target as Winton blasted two late goals to put the top East Coast side to the sword.

Chris Strain Snr’s side were looking to turn their disappoiting start to the season arounda agaionst a visiting side who had put a good run of results together in recent weeks.

Winton created the first chance in three minutes when a Ryan Caddis corner was headed back across goal but John Bradford’s header from this went over the bar Whitburn’s first chance came in 10 minutes when Craig Breen intercepted a dangerous ball into the box just before Dewi Taylor got to it. John Bradford then fired just wide from 20 yards after Ryan Caddis had headed the ball back to him in 12 minutes. Two minutes later Horne fumbled a cross which fell to Bobby Colligan post but he hit the post from close range and the danger was cleared. Rovers were controlling the game at this stage but the finishing was lacking sharpness.

The visitors were still dangerous on the break and it took two good defensive blocks in 26 minutes to deny Jake Moyes then Dewi Taylor on the edge of the box. A minute laterBradford headed a deflected shot into Horne’s arms. It took a good punch by Dylan Caddis to clear a dangerous free kick t by Jack Hamilton in 28 minutes as the visitors came more into the match. A minute later Bradford had a shot deflected wiede, Rovers were giving away too many free-kicks around the box although the visitors were unable to make the most of them. It took a great save from Horne to den Caddis after the striker had picked up the ball out on the left before cutting into the box and shooting only to see the keeper turn the ball round the post in 39 minutes.

Rovers started the second half the same way as they ended the first on the attack. Horne made a good save from a Robbie Cochrane header in 59 minutes following a Caddis corner on the right. Horne was then unable to hold on to a 2-yard shot from Jared Willet on 61 minutes but there was no one following in and gathered the loose ball.

Whitburn’s first chance of the second half was thwarted in 56 minutes when Gareth Turner blocked a shot from Jason Walton.

Whitburn took the lead against the run of play in 63 minutes when they were awarded a penalty for a Craig Breen push on a Whitburn player after a cross into the box and Gary Brass sent Caddis the wrong way from the spot.

In 65 minutes a Caddis’s free-kick was played back to him by Bradford but his angled shot went just wide.

Whitburn enjoyed their best spell and created several chances. In 67 minutes Dylan Caddis saved from Gary Brass as the striker ran in on goal. Two minutes later Rovers had another two goal attempts which were blocked and cleared.

Winton then changed things and went to three at the back, pushing Dean Richardson further up the pitch. Horne made another good save from a Willet shot in 74 minutes. A minute later Dean Richardson cleared a Brass shot off the line.

Winton went close in 78 minutes when a Robbie Cochrane header from a Ryan Caddis corner was headed off the line. It was end to end stuff as Rovers looked to get the equaliser and Whitburn the goal to ensure the win and it was Rovers that equalised with 10 minutes to play when Ryan Caddis hit a low hard cross to the back post and although thefirst attempt came back off the post Ian Reid was on hand to force the ball home from a couple of yards for his first goal for the club.A minute from time Robbie Cochrane made a good block to stop a Jason Walton shot.

Then with almost the last kick of the ball Rovers won the game in time added on. Ryan Caddis ran on to a ball down the rightand cut into the box before shooting from a tight angle. Horne partially blocked the shot but was unable to keep it out and despite a defender’s efforts at the far post he only helped the ball into the net.
