A TALENTED young Saltcoats skater is aiming to go to the top in the sport after celebrating medal success in only her second competition.
Danniella McCormick (8), a Primary Four pupil at Caledonia Primary School, recently took second place in a strong field at the Coventry Open.
That came two months after her competitive debut at the Murrayfield Open. The Magnum Ice Dance Figure Skating Club member finished seventh out of 28 in her age group at the event in the Capital.
The youngster’s mum Evelyn McGarrity said: “Danniella is very dedicated and she is talking about trying to make the 2022 Olympics. Her dad Kevin McCormick plays ice hockey and I think that’s what got her interested in skating.
“She is down practising on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and loves skating.”s For the full story see this week's Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald.
