Girls section A FOUR-a-side SWFA Festival at Kilwinning Sports Club on Sunday morning saw KCFC U9’s play in 6 games, winning three, drawing one and losing two.

Ayr United were put to the sword in two games, as were Motherwell, KCFC gained an impressive draw against the classy Clark Drive after being defeated by the same club earlier and succumbed narrowly to Kilwinning in the final game.

KCFC showed some tremendous fighting spirit, especially in the second game against Clark Drive where they found themselves 2-0 down and recovered draw 3-3.

Ashley, Beth, Morgan and Jodi all found the net and Morgana and Abby were unlucky not to add their names to the scorers roster.

The girls played really well and did themselves proud. It’s not easy playing in such testing conditions and they should take confidence from their performances.

At the same venue the U11s entered two teams KCFC Ladeside also KCFC Dreamteam playing double-sided games back-to-back on a soft grass pitch.

The first Ladeside game was against Dalry - a good game from both teams with the sole goal from Eilidh Miller giving KCFC victory.

The next game was against Kilwinning FC with Jourdan Brown scored the winning goal.

Game three was against Cumbernauld who scored first, but Abby Logan levelled the score. Cumbernauld scored a late goal to make it 2-1.

game four was against Motherwell. A Brown shot put KCFC ahead. Good defending from Amy Jamieson and Eve Bennet helped Eve Andrews keep a clean sheet for KCFC to win 1-0 Game five was Ladeside against Dalry and with Dalry pushing for the goal, Ladeside broke free to get a nice pass through to Eiledh Miller who shot home to seal the win.

Game six was against Kilwinning and KCFC sealed the win when Megan Sproat crossed to Abby Logan who scored netted.

Game seven was against Cumbernauld. In the last seconds Anya McCallum broke away and scored, but the final whistle had gone.

KCFC Dreamteam also took part in a series of games. They played Cumbernauld with Abby Logan putting them ahead.

Cumbernauld came back strongly and scored twice to win.

In game two against Hamilton, Dreamteam just couldn’t get the ball away, but in last few minutes Anya McCallum playing along with Abby Logan beat Hamilton’s defence and scored a late winner.

Against Ayr United Dreamteam played the best they could pushing all attacks away. Katie Jackson set up McCallum scored yet another winning goal.

They then lost 1-0 to Kilwinning.

Players of the day were to Abby Logan and goalkeeper Eve Andrews.

FOUR-A-SIDE KCFC Junior Jets 2009 played their first games on Sunday at Greenwood Academy where they won three, drew one and lost one.

SEVEN-A-SIDE KCFC Thunder 2005 played their first games of the new season at the Vale on Saturday morning, paired with Hurlford for a double header against Winlinton Wolves. Playing two halves of 15 mins each game, the visitors who had the edge, winning both games, Game one saw KCFC start slowly and they were 5-0 down at half-time, but a much better second half saw Jamie Stirling scoring for Thunder and Winlinton only adding one more, Game two resulted in a 4-2 defeat. At 3-2 down with Jamie Stirling and Joseph McKinnon having scored for KCFC, the team were throwing everything at Winlinton but some good goa keeping and defending stopped Thunder from equalising. Then a late break saw Winlinton add their fourth.

KCFC 2003’s KCFC have two teams running at the 2003 age group, Warriors and Ladeside need new players to keep both teams playing regularly in the leagues. Anyone born in 2003 who is interested should come along for a trial on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 6pm-7.30pm at Garnock.

Ladeside 2003s’ game was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch but Warriors travelled to Partick to play Broomhill sports club.

The weather was appalling and the Warriors found it hard work, going a goal down within five minutes. This spurred the Warriors on and a Lennon Goldthorp strike levelled the match. Warriors scored their second through Kai Pearson.

The game got bogged down in midfield before Jack Kerr made it three with a long range effort. Then just before half-time Pearson added a fourth.

After half-time Goldthorp made it five then Broomhill got their passing together and a great one-two pulled one back. Straight from kick-off Warriors got a corner and with a well flighted cross from Pearson, Jack Kerr scored with a powerful header.

Stephen Townsley made it seven with a good shot but Broomhill scored again.

Jim Riley scored then with seconds to go Kerr completed his hat-trick.

Final score: Broomhill 3 Kilbirnie Warriors 9. Man of the match: Stephen Townsley.

11-A-SIDE KCFC Bravehearts 2002 welcomed Winlinton Wolves to Beith Astro on Sunday. Although the visitors are higher in the league than KCFC, the home team took the initiative and ran into a five-goal lead thanks to a magnificent team effort.

Lewis Stewart was brought down in the box in nine minutes and Connor McGrattan converted the penalty. Lewis then broke clear a minute later, this time slotting home.

Connor added a third in 20 minutes then Lewis broke away at pace and added number four a minute before half-time.

Lewis clashed with the keeper early in the second half and had to come off but it was not long before a breakaway from a Winlinton corner saw Kieran Monaghan make ground down the wing before crossing for Glen Hyslop to net.

The pressure from Bravehearts continued but goals dried up late in the game when Wolves pulled back a goal in 54 minutes and another in 67 minutes. They then added a third from an offside position with the final kick of the game in 70 minutes.

Final score KCFC 5 Winlinton Wolves 3 Adults KCFC Ammies had their away league fixture against Westkirk switched from Cumnock to the astro at Auchinleck but it ended with the Ammies the wrong end of a 2-0 scoreline.

In the evening the Ammies held a race night at Tam Payne’s Gym function room, the evening sponsored by J & D Pierce.

Community News A REMINDER that the Saturday Soccer is now up and running. It’s for 6 to 12 year-olds on Saturdays, from 10.15am to 11.15am at the Vale. It’s free of charge and there are fun games of football for the hour for everyone.
