Ladies Hockey Dumfries 2 Ardrossan 1st 5 ARDROSSAN's first team made a great start in their first league game with an emphatic away win over Dumfries a week past on Saturday.

The girls played a high tempo game, putting the Dumfries defence under pressure.

The defence of Kirsty Dunlop, Laura Mackie, Chantelle Fisher and Jenna Gossman were keeping things tight, denying Dumfries any space or time. Fiona Matthews and Linny Fisher were combining well and getting behind the Dumfries defence, sending in telling crosses, which were getting passed up by the Ardrossan attack early on.

The breakthrough came after a one-two between Fiona and Linny, which Fiona hit home from the edge of the circle with a fine angled shot. Fiona was on target shortly afterwards as she coolly lifted the ball over the goalkeeper from a Daniela Young drop ball after good wing play from Lauren Stevenston.

Ardrossan continued piling on the pressure after the break, Daniela Young adding to the score with two fine individual goals after some good midfield play from Kirsty Blackstock, Caroline Grove and Jenna Gossman. Amanda Stewart added the fifth from a Fiona Matthews blocked a shot after good wing play from Tara Mair.

As Ardrossan shuffled the team, Dumfries hit back with two late consolation goals but the points were in the bag. Fiona Johnsto played well on her debut, sending in decent crosses from the wing. There were good performances all round with Daniela Young player of the match.
