Ladies Hockey Ardrossan 1’s 0 Clydesdale Western 1 THE Ardrossan girls were disappointed not to have taken something from this game against top of the league team Clydesdale Western at St Matthew’s on Saturday.

Ardrossan had long periods of possession but found no way through a well organised Clydesdale defence. Daniela Young up front for Ardrossan was unlucky not to score as she continually outpaced the away team with great support from Fiona Matthews, Lauren Stevenston and Linny Fisher.

The game continued at the same pace in the second half with the Clydesdale goalkeeper making a last ditch stick save from a fine Lauren Stevenston shot.

Mhairi Dale in the Ardrossan goal was kept busy but coped admirably with really solid stops.

Ardrossan’s defence were holding up well with Eilidh Smith and Laura Mackie stifling the Clydesdale wingers.

The goal came after an injury to sweeper Kirsty Dunlop meant she had to leave the field. This disruption unsettled Ardrossan as well as Caroline Grove being sin binned. Clydesdale took full advantage scoring during this unsettling period. Ardrossan almost equalised at the death when Linny Fisher neary8 got her stick to a Kirsty Blackstock shot from a short corner. Despite the scoreline, this was a tremendous team performance from all the Ardrossan players, who gave everything against a very strong team. Player of the match went to Goalkeeper Mhairi Dale.

There was no way forward for Ferguslie as the Ardrossan defence were solid throughout the game.

For the first 15 minutes Ardrossan dominated with a strong midfield of Clare Monaghan, Lidia Carbonell and Alysanne Wilson, but were unable to make the early pressure tell.

The breakthrough came from a Lidia Carbonell cross with Kate Parker slotting home with a powerful strike.

This resulted in a goal feast with three quick strikes from player-of-the-match Louise Duncan with assists from Clare Monaghan and Alysanne Wilson.

The fifth goal came from a short corner beautifully dispatched by Kate Parker.

The second half was more even with Loch Lomond trying to make a comeback. The back-line of Natalie Spence, Laura Anderson, Gill Brown and Holly Gilmour managed to keep things tight with Vicki Campbell only needing to make a couple of good saves.

The high tempo continued but unfortunately Ardrossan couldn’t manage any goals with a penalty flick from Louise forcing a good save from their goalie. It was another brilliant win for the Ardrossan girls who continue their superb unbeaten start to the season.
