GARNOCK on Saturday hosted Kilmarnock Rugby Club in their annual quest for the Gilbert Memorial Cup currently held by the East Ayrshire club.
The game started with Kilmarnock kicking towards the Kilbirnie end of Lochshore and set up a couple of rucks inside the Garnock 22 metre area. Garnock withstood this pressure and drove towards the half way line. The won a scrum about 22 metres out and powered towards the Killie try line through telling runs by Fraser Miller and Matt Shiells but the defence of Kilmarnock held firm.
Play remained well inside the Kilmarnock half and Garnock gained a penalty when the Kilmarnock backs were caught offside. From 25 metres and near the touchline Rory Walker opened the scoring with a well taken penalty. Twelve minutes gone and Garnock moved into a 3-0 lead.
