ARDROSSAN Ladies side qualified for the promotion play offs on Saturday when they scored an excellent 72-69 win away from home against a strong Paisley side.

Wins for Wendy Grant (21-14), Kathy Soudan (17-14) and Lawra Cox (19-18) were enough to cancel out a 23-15 defeat for Janice Dougal. They now face Balbardie at Coatbridge on Sunday, February 15.

It wasn’t such good news for the Gents side. They went down 79-60 at home to Paisley, which sees them going into their final league game with their Premier League status hanging in the balance when they face a difficult away trip to East Lothian.

Ayr Gents go into their final league game leading the section by one point after a solid 20-shot home win against East Kilbride on Saturday.

Wins for Colin Smith (22-21), Ally Reid (33-13) and John Cuthbertson (23-14) cancelled out defeat for Stuart Wyllie, who went down 24-14. The Ayr side now face Tweedbank away from home whilst Inverclyde, on second place, travel to Glasgow to take on West of Scotland. Ayr Ladies lost out by 10 shots away from home to East Kilbride and finish their season in a respectable third place in their league.

Prestwick Gents side suffered a 40 shot defeat at the hands of Auchinleck and join their Ladies side at the bottom of their respective leagues.

Prestwick’s Rebecca Houston and Darren Weir continued to show their undoubted potential when they qualified for the final stages of the Youth Commonwealth Games at Cumbernauld at the weekend. Louise Noon narrowly lost out 12-8 to Auchinleck’s Carrie McLean.

Former Irvine ace Paul Foster MBE missed out on more major world glory and the opportunity to equal a record on Monday.

The Glasgow 2014 double Commonwealth Games gold medallist and partner Alex Marshall went down by two sets to one against English duo Simon Skelton and Robert Paton in the final of the World Indoor Pairs Championships at Potters in Norfolk.

They were bidding to emulate English duo Tony Allock and David Bryant, who won four successive world pairs titles between 1989 and 1992.
