ARDROSSAN Accies Minis enjoyed a riveting home fixture against East Kilbride RFC in glorious conditions on March 5.The Micros players also competed against East Kilbride with Cumnock RFCs Micros also along for the day. The warm, dry conditions helped all teams move the ball across the pitch with speed and accuracy allowing for a fast, wide game full of running.

The P1/2 Micros ran well, tackled efficiently but ultimately suffered two close losses. Young Manus Gallanach was awarded star of the day for his non-stop tackling and keen eye for a gap in the defence.

P2/3 Micros found their opposition well-organised in defence and accurate in their attacking play.

Despite losing both matches their enthusiasm for the game waned. Ryan McCulley was awarded star of the day for Accies.

The P4 Minis revelled in sunny conditions. They moved the ball well, particularly out of the tackle situation with deft offloads. Their defence was resolute – especially from Logan O’Moore who was awarded one of the star of the day accolades. The other went to Zac Edmund, who had his finest game ever, after putting in some big runs and clever offloads. Young Olive Forbes was also on form.

The P5 Minis produced some fantastic rugby from the first whistle, running in try after try during the first half.

Using a combination of training ground moves and individual skills, speed and power, they had their opposition on the ropes very quickly. However East Kilbride fought back in second half with some wonderful rugby of their own, showing great determination to draw within try of the home team. Stars of the day were Tom Monaghan and Ronnie Robertson, both of whom revelled in the open spaces with ball in hand and tackled magnificently.

P6 Minis faced a tough, strong East Kilbride team. After conceding a few tries in the first half, they rallied, stepped up their intensity and tried to claw back the match. Unfortunately, they were unable to turn the result around but delivered a gutsy display.

Stars of the day were Seamus Gallanach and Calum Bell.

P7 Minis enjoyed a similarly physical encounter, but through the likes of their stars of the day, Aiden Finnegan and Mark Rout, they were able to absorb the pressure and apply back on their opponents with equal measure. The defensive efforts from both teams saw the match end in a draw.
