THE Ardrossan Accies Minis and Micros took to the road on Saturday, after accepting an invitation to play in the Strathaven RFC Minis tournament.

More than 40 children and their ever-supportive parents travelled to the South Lanarkshire club to enjoy a festival of rugby in the beautiful sunshine.

They competed against and mingled with a raft of other clubs from the West of Scotland and then enjoyed the barbecue and home baking offered up by the generous hosts.

The players and parents were delighted to match up against rivals old and new from Cumnock, Dalziel, East Kilbride and Srathaven.

The Micros enjoyed a fine afternoon's rugby with a total of six games under the guidance of coach Andy Gibson. He managed to steer the P2 and P3 youngsters to three victories and three defeats, following a narrow loss at the final whistle to Cumnock. Calan Tyler and Cameron Gibson continued their energetic partnership for P3, earning themselves star of the day. Young Lachie McNicholl of P2 stood out amongst his classmates to earn the same award thanks to his enthusiastic display.

The P6/7 team delighted the home and away support with some fast, skilful rugby which drew respectful applause from all.

They secured one win, one loss and two draws on the day.

Lewis Morrison produced a storming performance with his electric running and nimble footwork to take the P7 star of the day.

In P6, Lochay Forbes once again earned the award thanks to his physics-defying tackling and keen nose for the try line.

P4/5 had a fantastic day in the office with three wins and a draw. They ended up winning the competition, despite being tied on points with Cumnock thanks to a hefty try count in their favour. Nine of these scores came from the prolific Tom Monaghan alone, netting him star of the day for P5. Logan O’Moore of P4 was simply sublime in attack and resembled a lumberjack in defence with his ability to fell any opposition that dared run his way, O’Moore deservedly took the P4 star of the day award.

This weekend sees the squad head to local rivals Garnock RFC.
