Concerns were voiced after a Saltcoats care home was forced to shut its doors following an outbreak of Norovirus.
Visitors had to be banned from the Caledonia Care Home complex to stop the spread of the winter vomiting bug.
The Herald received an anonymous letter from a concerned relative, which stated: "The money paid to keep the old people should make sure no bugs exist."
