A CREW from Lamlash Community Fire Station were called out to tackle a chimney fire in a house in Arran’s Whiting Bay in the early hours of Saturday.
On arrival, firefighters found the fire had worked its way behind the hearth stone so had to ensure all affected areas had been extinguished.
After approximately one hour at the scene the fire was fully extinguished using a hose reel jet.
Station manager Derek Davidson said: “In the days of gas central heating and under floor heating, chimney fires are reasonably rare.
“However, it is good to see that the operational crew attending have not forgotten the skills of dealing with a more traditional type of fire which can occur in older properties, particularly within rural areas.”
