A SERIAL illegal driver has been sent to prison.

Mark Boyle, of Castlebay Place, was ordered to spend seven months in prison for a string of road traffic offences.

On one occasion on March 31 on Scaraway Terrace, he was stopped by police after it was discovered he was driving uninsured and with a disqualified licence.

When the car was pulled over, the 27-year-old made off, forcing the police to make chase before eventually losing track of him.

He came to the attention of authorities again on August 28, when he was spotted on CCTV driving a quad bike at speed down Sauchiehall Street.

As well as driving uninsured and disqualified, Boyle was driving in the opposite direction of the traffic and through red lights.

Around 2.40am, police officers came across the accused who had parked the quad bike outside of a bar on Sauchiehall Street.

When police finally arrested Boyle, he put up a struggle and refused to provide a specimen of breath before shouting, swearing and making offensive gestures towards cops.

Boyle appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court after pleading guilty to a number of road traffic offences.

Sheriff Mary McCrory told Boyle she had no other option but to give him a jail sentence.

He was ordered to spent seven months in jail and was disqualified from driving for seven years.
