NORTH Ayrshire Council is offering residents the chance to give their plants a boost in time for summer with their free compost giveaway events this weekend.

This Saturday, April 7, will see council officers visit various locations across North Ayrshire to drop-off around 100 tonnes at four locations, including Kilbirnie Library carpark and the Stevenston Shore, Trelawney Terrace carpark.

To collect a share of the compost, simply head there – but remember to take a bag and shovel with you as the compost will be loose.

Almost 12,500 tonnes of food and garden waste is collected from North Ayrshire each year.

This is then recycled into rich compost which is made available for use by the council and offered to residents for free.

By recycling the right stuff in the right bin, residents can help the council reduce some of the £2.5million spent sending waste to landfill.

Councillor Jim Montgomerie, Cabinet Member for Place, said: “This event is a great opportunity for community groups and individuals to reap the rewards of our commitment to recycling.

“We would encourage all those who could make use of the compost to head along.”

Compost supplies will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
