STEVENSTON Community Council has called for arbitration over the fight to re-open the New Street car park.
At last week’s meeting of the community council, the members discussed the recent agreement at North Ayrshire Council to seek a Compulsory Purchase Order of the car park after they said that negotiations had not been fruitful with the owners, Europe and Jersey Estates.
But a meeting held between the council and the owners was described as positive and both parties are now assessing options going forward and the Community Council wants an independent, third party arbitrator to settle the dispute.
Chair of Stevenston Community Council, Gerard Pollock, said: “The Community Council call for arbitration in regards to the New Street Car Park. Please go there.”
The saga has been on the go since February of this year when owners Europe and Jersey decided to close the car park.
