THE local Coastguard team rushed to Ardrossan South Beach at the weekend after they spotted an empty kayak.

Shortly before 2pm on Saturday the Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team was called out following reports from a concerned member of the public.

The team responded immediately and utilised the 4x4 Coastguard Rescue Vehicle to access the beach and quickly located the kayak in question.

But following some quick enquiries, the team located a group of experienced and well equipped kayakers who were nearby having a spot of lunch before heading out to sea. They confirmed the kayak belonged to their group and there were no persons in distress.

A spokesperson said: “Thankfully in this instance it was a false alarm, but the member of the public followed the correct course of action.”
