THE statue to honour Saltcoats footballing legend Bobby Lennox will be unveiled on Sunday, November 18.
And the work of art, which is set to be housed in the town’s Countess Street, will be uncovered for the public by a former teammate of Lennox and the father of a local war hero.
Celtic legend and fellow Lisbon Lion John Clark will be joined by Tony Savage, father of Corporal William Savage, to showcase the statue in front of locals and invited guests.
John Clark is a lifelong friend of Bobby and the pair played together in Celtic’s most famous side, ensuring legend status as part of
the Lisbon Lions side who lifted the European Cup in 1967.
Tony will not only represent the ultimate sacrifice by his son for his country but also for the people and community of The Three Towns and football fans across the world, without who’s efforts and donations there just would be no statue.
On being asked by the committee to represent the support of people who contributed their efforts towards the statue being completed Tony said: “I am so proud to be representing my son William in the unveiling of the Bobby Lennox Statue.
“William would be so pleased that him and his family are to be associated with a legend like Bobby and representing the Three Towns.”
Representatives from Rangers FC will be there on the day with ambassadors from other clubs across the country.
The statue will be the culmination of hard work of the Bobby Lennox Statue committee and the unveiling day is set to be a huge event.
