A LONG serving member of a Saltcoats church community was presented with a special award recently.

During the morning service on September 23, Rev. Sarah Nicol made a presentation to Mrs Evelyn Slater, retired Session Clerk of the church, to mark her 20 years’ service in the role.

Ann Turner, church treasurer, having worked closely with Evelyn over many years, spoke of her long and devoted service and of her ability to adapt to the changing requirements of the various occupants of the pulpit during periods of vacancy combined with her ability to respond to the pastoral needs of the congregation while organising the procedures of the Session.

While stepping down as Session Clerk, Evelyn will continue to fulfil many roles within the church and the Guild.

At a congregational lunch held in the hall in her honour Evelyn spoke of how delighted she was at the number present to give her and her family such a happy day and of the privilege it had been to serve the Lord at St Cuthbert’s as Board Clerk and as Session Clerk over more than twenty years. Evelyn expressed her joy at the induction of a new minister who was already making a very positive impact on the life of St Cuthbert’s and within the community.
