WEST Kilbride’s music and arts festival is returning this month for a second year.

With more than 20 events in six venues over 10 days, Vertex Festival offers something for everyone.

Run by volunteers, Vertex brings music, arts, comedy, theatre and more to the village.

Chris Maughan, one of the festival organisers, said: “We felt that there was an appetite and support in West Kilbride for a festival.

“The village is also wellknown as Scotland’s Craft Town and as a centre for arts and creativity.

“We wanted to build on this with Vertex, by providing a focus for some of the great talent in the village and opportunities for local people to get together.”

Volunteer Drew Kirkland has more than 30 years’ experience of working in live music production.

Drew added: “Vertex means the point where things come together – which is what we want to create in terms of music and art.”

Designer Mary Cahill, of Gosh Creative, is also involved in the village’s Yuletide nights.

She said: “For a village the size of West Kilbride it really is amazing when you consider the range of groups involved in the arts and music.

“We also have some great venues in the village. So, we hope that people take the chance to visit and explore some of the fantastic spaces we have in our own community.”

Volunteer Kirsty Davis said that the success last year wouldn’t have been possible without volunteers and the support of the community.

She said: “The support for Vertex last year was fantastic and it was great to see events like the pop-up cinema continue throughout the year.

“It was great to talk to people who didn’t know that there were so many artistic or musical groups or projects in the village, or who had never been in some of the venues.”

Highlights this year include Rip It Up with Vic Galloway and Pete Stanton sharing the story of Scottish pop; Giggles on the Green Comedy night; music from Dead Electric with the Shores and a 1950s dance party complete with cocktails and dance demos.

Vertex Festival takes place in West Kilbride from October 26 to November 4 at venues in West Kilbride. Find out more at www.vertexfestival.co.uk
