YOUNG Budding film critics will have the chance to showcase their work as part of the worlds largest film festival for children.

Into Film - a film education charity - has launched a nationwide review writing competition in partnership with The Herald, to give an opportunity to young aspiring film critics to have their work published in a national paper.

Audiences of the Ayrshire Odeon, Ayr Film Society, Odeon Kilmarnock, Dunlop Cinema and the Harbour Arts Centre in Irvine will be invited to review films they are seeing over the duration of the festival.

Screenings include adored classics as well as recent blockbusters such as Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Peter Rabbit, an animated adaptation of classic children’s tale, screened in a relaxed setting for autistic children.

The competition is open to primary school children ages 5-11 and secondary students aged 12-19 who will be able to write up to a maximum of 300 words with varying categories.

The winners of each category will have their pieces published in The Herald’s film section and will also win a selection of film related prizes.

Review writing is at the core of Into Film’s education offer and is a proven aid in helping to boost literacy and attainment.

Into Film talent ambassador, Scottish actor Kevin Guthrie, has shown his support of the competition.

He said: “Reviews are an important part of the film industry and can really make you think about your own performance.

“This is an exciting competition that could encourage the next generation of film reviewers and ensure the future of film criticism is in safe hands!”

Entries to the competition close on Monday November 19th, with the winner will be announced in The Herald on the final day of the Festival, Friday November 23rd.

All screenings are free of charge, but early booking is encouraged to avoid disappointment. Log on to www.intofilm.org/festival to reserve your space.
