KILWINNING’S ‘Wee Warrior’ has been chosen to switch on the town’s Christmas lights after winning more than 500 votes

Kieran Crichton will light up the Main Street later this month after coming top in a poll which saw him win more than two thirds of all the votes.

More than 800 people voted altogether in the Promoting Kilwinning poll after the group announced they wanted the people of the town to decide who would switch on their Christmas lights.

After a few days of voting and 822 votes being cast, Kieran was announced as the clear winner after gaining 512 votes.

Kieran’s mum Senga said she was thankful to everyone who voted for her wee warrior.

She said: “I would like to thank everyone who voted for my wee warrior to switch on the Xmas lights. He only went and won.

“We had a list of worthy winners that do so much for our community I respect each and everyone of them so I am so thankful to everyone who voted.”

Kieran won the hearts of the whole town after winning his nine-month battle with brain cancer.

The 13-year-old Kilwinning Academy pupil was diagnosed with an aggressive form of medulloblastoma back in March after doctors discovered five tumours on his brain.

One tumour was able to be removed, but Kieran had to undergo eight long months of chemotherapy and radio therapy to shrink the ramining tumour.s

Last week the Times told how Kieran had been given the news his family had been praying for when doctors told him he was cancer free and in remission.
