A SALTCOATS woman is facing jail after endangering two young girls by flipping her car while more than fivetimes the drink-drive limit.

Ellen Moore was drunk when she smashed ito parked cars in Jacks Road, Saltcoats sending her own car flipping on to its bonnet and careering across the road.

The girls, aged 10 and 12, had a miracle escape and Moore was rushed to hospital to receive treatment for her injuries and be checked out.

It’s understood Moore, 43, had downed two bottles of wine before getting behind the wheel with the children inside.

Her black Vauxhall Vectra first struck and damaged a black Ford Focus – then smashed i to a black Suzuki Alto, which was also parked.

The smash caused damage to all three cars and flipped Moore’s vehicle on to its roof. It then careered across the road on its roof and came to a crashing halt when it smashed in to a lamp post.

The emergency services raced to the scene and the girls managed to escape without injury. Moore refused to provide a breath test at the scene and was taken to hospital to receive treatment for injuries to her face.

She was later taken to the police station where she finally gave a breath test, revealing she had 119 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath – nearly five-and-ahalf time the drink-drive limit of 22mg.

She was held in police custody after the smash and appeared in the dock at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Wednesday to face five charges.

She pled guilty to three charges in exchange for two being dropped.

She admitted dangerous driving while the kids were inside, causing her car to strike the other vehicles and flip on its roof, failing to provide a breath test at the road side and drink-driving. Charges that she did not have a valid driving licence and was uninsured at the time of the smash were dropped.

Sentencing was adjourned for background reports to be pr epar ed and she was released on bail ahead of a hearing next month.

When contacted at her home in Cumbrae Road on Friday afternoon Moore, who was sporting two black eyes, refused to comment on the case.

A source said: “She must have been catastrophically over the limit.

“She blew more than fivetimes the limit but that was hours after the smash.

“She had been taken to hospital and received treatment in between.

“If she had been breathtested at the roadside she would have had a much higher reading.

“Her body had far more time to process the alcohol in her system so the reading she gave was actually far less than the amount she had in her system at the time of the smash.

“Given the high reading and there were children in the car means she will be very lucky to escape a jail sentence.”
