LAST weekend a time capsule was planted to commemorate 100 years on from the end of WWI.

Organised by a small committee, the capsule is vacuum sealed and features memory sticks, DVDs, pictures, letters and memorabilia showing life in the Three Towns since 1918 up until present day including recent remembrance parades and other activities. The time capsule will remain in the ground for the next 50 years.

Cllr Jim Montgomerie who was on the committee told the Herald: “Since I started the 2018 committee purely and only for the Time Capsule it has been a huge success in the community with local schools, organisations and families putting stuff into it.

“We wanted to commemorate the end of the First World War with doing something a bit different. The Capsule will be dug up in 50 years time. This gives the youngsters from the schools who put stuff in it to see the opening of it and to see their items. I would like to thank Paul and Boab for their dedication in making this a success and also North Ayrshire Council for all their time, help and patience with us. You can view the top of the Capsule at the Saltcoats War Memorial on the pavement entrance.”

The Centenary Committee (Boab McDougal, Jim Montgomerie and Paul Coffey) would like to thank all who helped, the committee will cease business as of December 21.
