AN American woman is looking for help tracing her late mother’s long lost pen pal.

Kathleen Thompson, who hails from Waseca, Minnesota, believes the late Ellen Hollas, who is thought to have lived on the Isle of Arran, was a pen pal of her mum’s from before World War II.

Her mum, Martha Louise Weiss Thompson passed away on February 21, 2013, at the age of 99.

Kathleen has discovered photos that her mother saved from the 1930s. And now she wants to return them to Ellen’s family.

Ellen’s maiden name was Ferguson and amongst the postcards in her mum’s notes was one announcing her marriage to Leslie William Hollas.

Kathleen said: “According to my mothers notes, She lost track of her pen pal, Ellen Ferguson, toward the end of World War Two.

“Among the photos was a postcard, that Ellen sent to announce her upcoming marriage to Leslie William Hollas, during the Easter holiday, in 1935.

“I would like to return the photos to Ellen’s surviving family.”
