CONSERVATION group Friends of Fullarton (FOF) held a successful walk recently, A break in the weather following the previous day’s deluge meant the nature walk at Fullarton Woods was in glorious sunshine.

Led by Harry Richards of Scottish Wildlife Trust who is also a FOF Committee member, participants learned about nature and wildlife around the woodlands They also found out about the works FOF have been doing to improve the area.

They run monthly work parties on the last Sunday of the month starting April 28 To join in, meet group members at the noticeboard at the car park at 2pm.

Friends of Fullarton is a small registered charity set up by a team of Troon residents, primarily concerned about the lack of care and attention given to the woodland over the last decade.

They decided it was time to take action and do whatever we can to restore the woodland to its former glory.

They started up in 2015 and the group of volunteers has grown and organisers hope people will be able to see many of the improvements they have made to the woodlands.

There is a long way to go and they can’t do the work without fundraising, grants and support from the public, South Ayrshire Council and volunteers.

Some groups working with them to improve the woodlands are Central Scotland Green Network, Scottish Wildlife Trust, Troon Allotment Society, South Ayrshire Council and East Ayrshire Woodlands.

Much work has been completed, with many dead, dying or dangerous trees having been cut back.
