NORTH Ayrshire Council has confirmed investigation works will take place at the proposed site for a new education and community facility in Ardrossan.

The North Shore site will be assessed by specialists who will evaluate the state of the land and what remediation work needs to take place before any development can take place.

Works will be carried out by Dunelm Geotechnical and Environmental Ltd and will begin next Tuesday, April 23 and are expected to last approximately three weeks.

The plans for the new Ardrossan Campus are currently at the pre-engagement stage with more detailed proposals – informed by responses from the public – being put forward to the council’s Cabinet later this year.

As well as the campus, other developments – including an International Marine Sciences Centre, housing and a coastal path – are all being considered for the North Shore site.

These are all part of an overall package of works – supplemented by Ayrshire Growth Deal money – to regenerate the harbour and town.

Ahead of the works, Karen Yeomans, North Ayrshire Council’s Executive Director for Economy and Communities, said: “These works are absolutely essential and just part of the ongoing process as we determine the condition of the land and how best we can take our plans forward.

“We would like to assure everyone that necessary works will be undertaken and development will only occur once the land is ready.”
