Young entrepreneurs from St Matthew’s Academy scooped three accolades at the Young Enterprise Scotland Ayrshire Awards.

The school’s Young Enterprise Company, Pure, picked up awards for Best Product, Best Presentation and Business of the Year.

Pure were recognised for their personalised water bottle aimed at reducing plastic waste. The product was the idea of team member Laura McGee as a fun and innovative way to reduce plastic waste within the school.

The team of sixth years are now preparing to represent Ayrshire in the Scottish finals of the awards in June.

Link teacher and ICT faculty head, Tracy Allen, said: “They’re absolutely buzzing. They’ve been dancing around the classroom.

“It’s a huge achievement for them.

“If they win the Scottish finals, they go on to represent Scotland in the UK finals and if they win that, they go to the European finals. They’ve definitely got their eyes on the prize.”
