VANDALS are thought to have caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to a set of traffic lights in Beith at the weekend.

Police confirmed that they received a report at around 11.15pm on Saturday, April 27 that the traffic lights on Eglinton Street had been damaged.

Councillor Donald L Reid said that it was “sad that anyone would vandalise two traffic lights in a busy and wellused part of the town”.

He added: “I have reported this to North Ayrshire Roads and police. It is likely that repairs will cost several thousand pounds. We all have to pay the cost of such irresponsible actions through taxes and community charge.”

Anyone with any information should contact Police Scotland on 101.
