McGavin Park is set to come alive in a musical extravaganza combining two of Kilwinning’s biggest annual events.

Music in the Park will fuse with the annual Segdoune Gala and take place on Sunday, June 2.

Organised by North Ayrshire Music Services, Kilwinning Community Events and Promoting Kilwinning, the free event will see a range of performers and the crowing of this year’s Segdoune Queen, Gabby Hutson.

The day will see musicians and singers from North Ayrshire Music Services perform across two stages, while award-winning bands from local schools will come together in a Summer showcase.

There will also be a range of activities to keep the kids entertained.

Free activities include children’s shows, balloon art, and more.

Donald Reid, councillor for Kilwinning, said: “We’re not having it [the gala] this year because we don’t have the money or resources.

“Then we heard that Saltcoats was having a food festival on the same weekend and thought we’d be fighting a losing battle.

“We got together and thought of combining the two events.

“We thought let’s work together and make the most of it to give the people of Kilwinning the best opportunity we can.”

The event runs from 12-7pm, with the Segdoune Royal Crowning taking place at 3pm on the main stage.

Wrist bands are available for the inflatables and small kids’ rides.

These can be bought in advance at www.totaltickets.org/e/99909/musicinthepark at a reduced price.

Local voluntary groups or partners wishing to have stall space at the event, or anyone wishing to help out, should email Donald Reid on donaldreid@live.co.uk for more information.
