STAFF at the Lauriston restaurant and hotel climbed Goatfell to raise money for the Beatson Cancer Charity.

Workers at the popular Ardrossan venue along with their relatives and regulars reached the summit of the 874-metre mountain in around two and a half hours.

The group had an aim of raising £1000 for the charity but have smashed their target and raised around £1500.

Vari Hood, who works at the Lauriston, said: “It was really good and we all made it to the top. “When we reached the top, it was really cold and we couldn’t see much due to the mist and fog.

“It was really hard climbing up, but we motivated each other to reach the summit. Coming down we all had sore legs.”

All the money raised will go to the Beatson charity which serves around 50 per cent of Scotland’s population and provides 25,000 courses of chemotherapy each year.

Vari said: “The Beatson charity have been very supportive to us and we hope this money will help them with advances in technology.”
