POLICE have responded to an incident in Troon following reports of a man allegedly carrying a crossbow in the street
Officers have been patrolling Dukes Road and Union Street in the town after residents reported allegedly seeing a man holding the offensive weapon.
The incident unfolded just before 9am this morning and officers in marked vehicles have attended.
Worried residents took to social media to post pictures of police patrolling the street.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "At a round 8.05am this morning (Wednesday, May 8) police received a report of a man in possession of a weapon in Templehill, Troon.
"Officers attended and a 59-year-old man was taken to hospital for assessment."
